About This Item
1911 WANTED POSTER WITH 2 ORIGINAL MUG SHOTS PASTED DOWN
(WESTERN AMERICANA). Look Out for These Men. $100 Reward for Each or $200 for
Both. These Men are Escapes from Colorado State Penitentiary. Original wanted poster, 12 by
9 inches, with 2 original mug shots pasted down below the headline, each 1¾ by 2¼ inches.
Colorado State Penitentiary, Thos. J. Tynan, Warden, Canon City, Colo., June 6, 1911.
Ross Hollingworth, 25 and Curtis T. Day, 29, escaped while working in a surveying party.
Hollingsworth, a bookkeeper, was serving a 13½- to 16-year term for forgery and larceny. Day
was serving a 10- to 15-year term for rape. Hollingsworth must have been captured, because in
1914 his sentence was slightly reduced "on account of his unusual and valuable service in
drawing plans." House Journal, General Assembly of Colorado (1915) 67. This appears to be an
unrecorded broadside. Slight folds, with repair tape on verso; moderate browning; a few small
stains; light edgewear; o/w very nice. Scarce.
