About This Item

New York: Doubleday, Page & Co., 1924. This handsome volume is from a set of Conrad that was published exclusively by Doubleday, Page & Co. for Wm. H. Wise & Co. of New York. (I am offering other volumes from this broken set as well). The book is bound in a woven khaki cloth, with blind-stamped borders and a vignette ship design on the front panel. It has top-edge gilt and rough-cut pages. It also has a paper spine label, which shows foxing, most likely from the original glue used during the manufacturing process. There is a small 1/4-inch tear at the spine bottom. The paper is splitting over the front interior hinge, but the book remains tightly bound, and the pages are clean and bright throughout. The book measures 5 3/8 by 8 inches and includes 238 pages. . Hard Cover. Very Good+/No Dust Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾" - 9¾" tall.

Synopsis

Ever since the sun rose I had been looking ahead. The ship glided gently in smooth water. After a sixty days' passage I was anxious to make my landfall, a fertile and beautiful island of the tropics. The more enthusiastic of its inhabitants delight in describing it as the Pearl of the Ocean. Well, let us call it the Pearl. It's a good name. A pearl distilling much sweetness upon the world.
