Green cloth.Three editions of this title were published in the year of its publication, this is the 2nd edition published April 1863. The first edition was published February 1863. The 2nd edition introduces an appendix which was not present in the 1st edition. This copy has been rebacked with a new spine of which the original cloth is attached to. New endpapers. Rubbing and some loss to edges of the cloth. Some foxing throughout. Discussion of archeaology, ice ages and glaciers, mankinds antiquity, and natural selection.Though Lyell heavily influenced Darwin's theory of evolution by natural selection, only in his later years as shown in this publication did he show (grudging) support for the theory.
