About This Item

You get one antique The Life and Works Of Joseph Wright, A.R.A. by William Bemrose 1885 hardcover book published by Bemrose and Sons in London. It does not come with a dust jacket. This item is in English. This is a perfect example of a book where the sum of its parts is greater than the whole. The book itself has some issues, including the fact that it only includes the first chapter. The boards are original and show signs of wear / stains. Only the top third of the spine is still attached to the pages. The pages' edges show wear. There is no random writing on the pages - just purposeful notes about what is in the book. The story about the family is presented over three pages. There is no further text after these pages. There are a number of black and white plates throughout the book. The frontispiece is a vignette of Joseph Wright that was reproduced by A. & W. Dawson's Positive Etching process. Note that the pages do have some foxing.

Once the book begins, the first plate is of Maria and was reproduced by the positive etching process. The next two plates are of three Arkwright children. Each plate is titled "Conversation Piece" and was reproduced using the positive etching process. After these is a plate that is titled "Edwin" but is actually of Thomas Haden of Derby. "I draw the mind" is written in pencil n the corner of this page. Then you have "Joseph and Harriet." The last plate is called "The Twins" that was etched by F. Seymour Haden. There is a pencil notation that it was etched by Seymour Haden and also states "1st proof." This is loose from the page. There are illustrations and pictures, as well as the plates. The only things not pictured are the 49 blank pages that are at the back of everything else.

I can only include 12 pictures here, so that is what I did. I have another six. Just let me know if you want to see those, too. The majority are of the outside of the book (covers and edges), which you will take apart, anway. This item is 15.5 inches tall by 11.25 inches wide. These measurements are approximations to give you an idea of the size of the book. Please see all pictures.
