RARE! "The Scottish Chiefs: A Romance" by Jane Porter. Undated, but due to the publisher, it was printed between 1867-1895. Advance Edition.

This Edition of this classic story is RARE! I could only find one other for sale - a couple others *might* be this edition, but I doubt it. It has a lovely decorated front cover and spine. Gilt on spine.

"Jane Porter is considered to have "crafted and pioneered many of the narrative tools most commonly associated with both the national tale and the historical novel," though her claims during her lifetime to have done so were often ridiculed and dismissed. Her 1810 work The Scottish Chiefs, about William Wallace, one of the earliest examples of the historical novel, was very successful and the French version was banned by Napoleon. It has remained popular with Scottish children."

Book is in Great condition! There is a scrape and a little staining on the back cover. Otherwise, very, very minor wear on the covers. Interior is in really Great condition! A few of the early page (~3-5) have a couple of very, very small tears in the page at the margin. Very minor. Pages have browned a bit. Interior is bright and clean! This book is in really great condition, especially considering it is around 120-140 years old!
