"Waverley Novels Centenary Edition" is a collection of novels written by Sir Walter Scott, a Scottish historical novelist, poet, and playwright of the late 18th and early 19th centuries. The Centenary Edition was published to celebrate the 100th anniversary of his first novel "Waverley" published anonymously in 1814, which is considered the first historical novel in the English language.
This edition includes all of Scott's novels, including "Waverley," "Rob Roy," "Ivanhoe," "The Heart of Midlothian," "The Bride of Lammermoor," and many others. These novels are set in different historical periods, from the medieval era to the Jacobite Rising of 1745, and they are all characterized by their vivid descriptions of historical events and their colorful and memorable characters.
Scott's writing style is characterized by his ability to create a sense of historical authenticity, using detailed descriptions of customs, manners, and landscapes, as well as a rich and evocative prose. He also provides a great insight into the social and political issues of the time, and his novels are considered a valuable source of historical information.
This edition of Scott's novels is considered a classic of English literature and it's a great resource for anyone interested in the history and culture of Scotland and the British Isles. It's also great for readers who enjoy historical fiction and adventure stories, as Scott's novels are full of action, romance and intrigue.
