"In 1942 [Pasolini] published his first book, Poetry for Casarsa, choosing to write in the Friulan dialect that he associated with his mother, considered by many Italians to be the most beautiful of Italian dialects. The dialect offered Pasolini not only a beautiful language, but also the opportunity to spite his father who could not understand it. His use of dialect also defied fascist authority, as the government of the time discouraged the use of dialects in an effort to mold a more unified national Italian identity" (W. (cm 33x27,5). An elaborate - very rare - children's movable and pop-up book by the Munich lawyer and author of humourous verse, Franz Bonn (cfr. https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Franz_Bonn). This complete with four splendid perspective scenes, each with five different levels. The scenes are "The Menagerie", "The Circus", "The Puppet Theater" (with a rotating disc), and "Summer in the Park". With verses by Mrs. Bonn. Klotz I, 592, 4. We could trace just one other copy (Munich, IJB).

The books provides answers to fifty questions, thirteen of which are to be asked by men, thirteen of which are to be asked by women, and the remainder of which may be asked by both men and women. The allegory of the human quality or defect corresponding to the question must then be sought and a pair of cards drawn. After further steps involving the drawing of further cards (five in total), one reaches an answer taken from one of the great philosophers. Dante is looking at Beatrice, who is pretending not to see him, denying him any form of greeting, and behind her two women, possibly her servants, are talking, peeking at the man. The artist here is probably depicting a scene inspired by chapter X of Dante's work La Vita Nova (The New Life), where he states that Beatrice stopped greeting him whenever he met her, leading him to despair ("la qual fu distruggitrice di tutt'i vizi e reina de le vertudi, passando per alcuna parte, mi negò lo suo dolcissimo salutare nel quale stava tutta la mia beatitudine"). Complete series of 6 prospective copperplates engravings (each plate measures ca. mm 200x165) with strictly contemporary hand colouring. Very nice condition.
They scenery-like sheets create a perspective image if arranged one behind the other.
Appreciated by spectators attending from balconies, the view exhibits an extraordinary street circus with various animals: an elephant, bears, savants dogs playing comedies, acrobatic monkeys, etc.; trainers wear sumptuous oriental costumes.
