1908. No Binding. Very Good/No Jacket. Hugh Thomson. This is the original watercolour, by Hugh Thomson, used for the picture of Eashing in chapter XI of the book by Eric Parker. The image is 11 X 8.5" and is framed and glazed by Edward Walker & Co of Coleraine, N.I., where Hugh Thomson originated. The image is clean and tidy although the inside of the glass has some spots on it and the picture would benefit from reglazing. This is a heavy item and will attract additional P&P if sent outside the UK so kindly contact me for a P&P quotation before ordering. Frame size 20 X 15". A first edition of the third book in the Rupert "Little Bear" series with the first three titles, only, on rear board. Generally in very good condition with no inscriptions or colouring in and showing only minor wear to hinges of spine. Rear board has some faint diagonal marks (see photos). Printed in blue, brown and red. An uncommon book in this condition. A first edition of the third book in the Rupert "Little Bear" series.

London: C. Dilly, 1786. 3rd Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. A very early book on electricity containing 5 copper plates in two volumes in very good condition. Recently rebacked with gilt decorations and spine labels. Ex libris Edinburgh Theological Library with bookplates on endpapers and a few neat, contemporary, marginal annotations in volume one and on endpapers. Collated complete although pages xvii - xxiv from the Introduction in volume one have been misbound at end. Paris: Jacques Rollin & Charles Antoine Jombert, 1753. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Good/No Jacket. 4to - over 9¾ - 12" tall. The two volume dictionary of mathematics and physics printed in Paris in 1753 with 100 (of 101 ) folding copper plate illustrations. Internally very good with some light embrowning but lacking the final plate (number 50 of volume 2) which is represented by a photocopy of the original (see photo). Recently respined with new endpapers and 2 spine labels with gilt titles. Half title present in volume 1 only. Boards of both volumes showing signs of wear (see photos) but, overall, a good set. An early reprint of the corrected and enlarged second edition of this classic study of the city of Bath and its history by, arguably, its most important architect. Collated complete, and bound in one volume, this two volume illustrated work has been skilfully rebacked with title label to spine and reference code to base of spine. Ex Public Library copy with discreet purple stamp in 12 places. Strengthening to hinge of plate opposite page 346 and plate opposite page 432 has been repaired in antiquity. Book Plate of previous owner on front pastedown. Occasional mild foxing and some minor creasing to plates. Additional photos available - please ask. This is a nice copy of a title that is scarce in any edition. ESTC citation T164717 The enlarged second edition of this classic study of the city of Bath and its history.

London: Benj. Tooke, 1702. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Good/No Jacket. 4to - over 8" tall. The small paper first edition of the letters of Sir Francis Bacon. Colation: (8), lxx, (2), 302, (2).Contemporary panelled calf, worn and rebacked, with five raised bands on spine and label bearing gilt titles. Wear to edges of boards with trivial loss to fore edge of upper board. A few marks to endpapers otherwise internally in very good condition with a 3cm closed tear to top margin of page V of Introduction, not affecting text. Lacking the Dedication leaves as usual due to the death of William III prior to publication. Final leaf with errata and advertisement present at end. ESTC reference N476823. This is the extensively illustrated catalogue of castings by Walter Macfarlane & Co., consisting of sections xxv-xxvii of the company's catalogue and covering: electric light pillars, brackets, etc. for arc lighting; electric light pillars, brackets, etc. for incandescent lighting; ventilation lamp pillars, columns and pipes. A folio volume with a wealth of architectural drawings of street furniture associated with lighting and ventilation with some street scenes illustrating the applications of this company's products. Collated complete in original green cloth with minor wear to extremities and gilt title to top board. Shaken with minor wear to hinges of spine (see photos). Undated but title has a company stamp, dated 25 July 1912, and a previous owner's name. Occasional foxing with a lightly toned title page and fore-edges of text block. Newton's Preface, which is found in some copies, is not present in this copy. Thought to be the first U.S. edition - this copy rebacked with tipped on title to spine and with new endpapers, in original trade cloth. Four pages of advertisements, xxiv pages of Prefaces, 288 pages of text. Minor water stain to margins of last few pages without loss of text. Uncommon. The Book of Jasher; Referred to in Joshua and Second Samuel. Faithfully Translated from the Original Hebrew into English and this is thought to be the first U.S. Edition.

Boston Massachusetts: Privately Published by Thomas W. Lawson, 1902. Numbered, limited edition . Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. Folio - over 12 - 15" tall. A very good copy of this classic history of the World Famous yachting race. Appears to have been recased, with new endpapers in Quarter binding with marbelled boards and leather spine with title label tipped on to spine. Illustrated in monochrome and with chromolithographs. This is number 497 from a numbered edition of 3000 copies - this one presented to Linton Hope & Co - the British Yacht Designers. Collated complete but with some minor water staining to the fore-edges of pages 181-199, not affecting text (see photos) and a tear to the corner of page 9 without loss. T.E.G. This is a copy of the limited edition of the beautifully illustrated Australian childrens book about the acceptance of differences between, in this case, a childs dolls. Consisting of 20 cuts illustrated, by hand, by the artist herself and tipped in to each page. Very good quarter bound in maroon cloth with silver titles to top board. This copy is number 59 of 60 copies made available for sale. Minor scuffing to head and tail of spine. This is a copy of the limited edition of the beautifully illustrated Australian childrens book about the acceptance of differences.

Amsterdam: P. et I. Blaeu, 1690. Hardcover. Very Good/No Jacket. 24mo - over 5 - 5¾" tall. A late 17th Century New Testament printed in French and published in Amsterdam by P. & I. Bleau. Internally very good, a.e.g. bound with the Psalms of David, set to music and also in French. Bound in what appears to be a contemporary leather binding rebacked with a later gilt title. The binding has been enhanced with ornately decorated white metal cartouches to front and rear together with a heraldic design of three birds (owls?) to central cartouches. Two white metal clasps to binding with "RLM" engraved upon them. Unobtrusive modern library number (0.5cm) adhering to ffep. An attractive little item. An early decorated binding with white metal cartouches and a heraldic identity.

London: James Fraser, 1837. 1st Edition . Hardcover. Very Good/No Jackets. 8vo - over 7¾ - 9¾" tall. The first edition of this classic work on the French Revolution. A very good set in leather, rebacked with original spines laid down and new labels, corners bumped and boards show some minor wear. Collated to Dyer Page 85 although volume II lacks the advert leaf. All half titles present. Printing and the Mind of Man #304. Volume I inscribed "T. C. Arnold fr. JRB. May 30/1840.", Volume III inscribed "C. T. Arnold. Oxford. 1840. Rugby. 1841" in a different hand - see photos. Volume I has some minor pencil annotation to rear endpaper. The first edition of this classic work on the French Revolution.
