The five sections fit together to create a grand cartographic image 168 x 130 cm (51 x 66 inches). Scale 1:316,800 (five miles per inch). Stock toned along folds and edges, yet state of preservation is remarkably good. Sheets published weekly over a five-week period between December 1917 and January 1918, the map shows the state of the battle lines at the end of 1917, including railroads, boundaries, roads, principal wireless stations, waterways, canals, various fortifications, aircraft depots, and cities. Since the sections are mounted on linen, the news coverage on verso of the sheets is not visible.

John Rushworth was a 17th-century English historian who is best remembered for his work covering the English Civil War. Colloquially known as the 'Rushworth Papers', 'Historical Collections' is one of the best accounts of the reigns of Kings Charles I and James I of England.
This particular set of folios contains reports on the proceedings in Parliament from 1618 through 1649. It is especially notable, not only being a first edition, but it contains the highly coveted folding map of England – a map printed over an illustration of the Battle of Prague.

1804 Naval Tactics Clerk Navy Horatio Nelson RARE Napoleon & Rev War PROVENANCE
John Clerk was an 18th-century Scottish author who is best remembered for his books on naval tactics and sea warfare. His works on naval strategies were so popular that Horatio Nelson was known to have used excerpts from his naval essays as orders for his ships. 'An Essay on Naval Tactics' was first published in 1790 and was paramount in establishing new offensive maneuvers used to break through enemy lines. The 'cutting the line' technique was described in detail and became one of the most important naval maneuvers of the late 18th- and 19th-centuries.
This 1804 edition of Clerk's masterpiece includes the expected illustrations depicting ship movement and direction.

1628 30 Years Valtellina War 1ed Valteline Lombards Grisons Italy SPAIN Phillip

The Valtellina is a valley in Northern Lombardy in Italy which became the site for numerous military struggles between the Lombards and the Grison League in the 16th- and 17th-centuries, most notably the Thirty Years War. It also was fought over by the Hapsburgs in Austria, as well as Spain, France, the Venetians, and still the Grisons. However, the most notable battle came when Spain, aided by the Catholic Church, massacred countless Protestants in 1620. For the next 20 years, the Valtellina would be held by different conquerors, seemingly alternating leadership every year or two until 1639 when the Treaty of Macon restored the power rightly to the Grisons.

In 1624, during the height of the struggle for power, an anonymous Italian letter was written describing the events and need for resolution. It was dedicated to Phillip III of Spain and the Catholic Church, pleading for peace and to return the land to the Grison's.… Read More

Louis IX of France was a 13th-century king, known for his 54-year reign of the French throne. His rule was highlighted by reforms made to the royal justice system, the annexation of Maine and Provence, and perhaps most notably his leadership in the 7th and 8th Crusades.
The majority of what we know of Louis IX's life comes from Jean de Joinville (the king's counselor) and his "Life of Saint Louis". Joinville offers details on the king's life and reign, but the majority of the book focuses on the Seventh Crusade and Louis's time spent in the Holy Land during the wars.
This 1668 edition of Joinville's "Louis IX" was collected and edited with notes by Charles Du Fresne Du Cange. A huge French folio!
