Eighth edition of 1872 copyrighted book. Three volume set as pictured. Bindings are firm. Green cloth boards with black and gilt stamping show light soiling with wear and fading along edges. Volume 2 has a few small drops of what looks like paint on spine. Corners are bumped. Date stamp on final page of each volume but text appears otherwise clean and unmarked. No dust jackets. Copyright 1894, this set is from the new and enlarged edition published 1905. Three-quarter bound, 10 volume hardcover set as pictured, missing volumes 11 and 12 [the indexes]. This set is number 216/300 of the Gettysburg Edition, Edition de Grand Luxe. These are beautifully made books whose bindings are very worn. They are eminently suitable for rebinding. Bindings are firm in all 12 volumes. Brown leather and marbled paper boards are very worn and either loose or detached in all volumes. Several volumes are missing either front or rear board. The leather is dry and crumbling. Marbled endpapers. Text block with gilt top edge is rough cut and mottled with some pages uncut. Text itself appears clean and unmarked. Each volume includes tipped in illustrations with tissue guards. Price reflects condition. Price includes extra shipping cost due to weight. Cloth cover, as shown with this listing is gilt stamped on front board and spine and is slightly faded. Signed by the author on the half title page. Endpapers are tanned and aged with a pencil annotation on front free endpaper. Binding is firm, colored top, head and tail bands. Rough cut fore-edge, text appears unmarked. This copy was bound by Sangorski & Sutcliffe of London in acid free leather and is flexibly hand sewn. Printed on gloss paper, head and tail bands and one silk ribbon marked which is worn and split. Leather cover as shown with this listing has five raised bands on the spine, gilt stamping on spine only. The cover is rubbed, scuffed and worn in places but the hand sewn binding is firm. Decorative endpapers with gilt-ruled board edges on front and back boards, gilt edges. Some spotting to text, see photos. Borzio Book published by Alfred A. Knopf in 1953. Advance reading copy of James Baldwin's first novel issued before publication of the hardcover first edition. Considered to be semi-autobiographical and tells the story of a depression-era Harlem teenager. The cover art used on the advance copies was rejected by the author and replaced for the first printing. Cover as shown with this listing is rubbed and scuffed. Infidel is a photographic essay providing an intimate portrait of a single U.S. platoon, assigned to an outpost in the Korengal Valley, one of the most dangerous Afghan postings in the war against the Taliban. Photographer Tim Hetherington presents a series of images that prove surprisingly tender in their depiction of male camaraderie and vulnerability.
